Groundbreaking for the 71 home "La Esperanza" (The Hope) project is scheduled for April 1997.
The ceremony will successfully mark two years of efforts to bring the low-income to moderate-income housing project to Dixon.
Olivia Estrada of Dixon, co-chair for The Sacramento Valley Organizing Community, said the houses will range in price from $90,000 to $144,000.
More than 200 applications have been received, Estrada said, and about 90 percent of them are from local residents.
The project will be constructed on land north of Anderson School, and east of Second Street. It is bounded to the north by Creekside Circle.
SVOC is a community-based organization of about 30 churches in the Yolo, Solano and Sacramento counties.
Estrada said St. Peters Catholic Church of Dixon has been an active partner in the project.
"The Rev. Maurice O'Brien has been very supportive," Estrada said.
Through federal, state and city financing, the project was able to become a reality.
Robert Kleiman of Structure Development Company in Los Angeles praised the various government agencies for their efforts and support.
"This is a very special project," Kleiman said. "It uses different government financing for what government was intended. This hits the target by helping people."
Homes will range from 875 square feet to 1440, and feature two to four bedroom plans, including formal dining rooms, spacious kitchens and master bedroom suites.
"This is a collective effort of the City of Dixon and the development team pulling together many resources to make this neighborhood and the opportunity for home ownership a reality for many deserving families," Kleiman said.
"The end result, people who word hard will realize their dreams," he said. "Several families will have beautiful new homes to live and raise their children in."
Kleiman said the SVOC is working on several other projects in Sacramento, but most [are] rehabilitation projects for existing buildings.
"It is a most exciting project and I feel honored we are able to be a part of it," Kleiman said. |
